KANSAS CITY, MO. – Zona Rosa has selected its six local non-profit organizations that will benefit from its popular Change for Charity program in 2012.
Zona Rosa founded the Change for Charity program in 2004 when it first opened asKansas City’s first urban town center. The program grantsKansas City area charities the proceeds from funds collected through Zona Rosa’s parking meters. Since inception the program has distributed more than $700,000 to local charities.
In addition, Change for Charity funds various charitable events as well as the Zona Rosa scholarship program withParkHillHigh School. For a second year, Change for Charity will offer a $2,000 scholarship for a college bound senior at Platte County R-3 School District.
The charities receiving proceeds from the Change for Charity program in 2012 are:
January/February
Ozanam
Ozanam’s mission is to respond to the behavioral, social and spiritual needs of children and their families with dignity and care, providing a continuum of innovative services of the highest quality. Ozanam serves at-risk youth who have emotional, behavioral and learning disabilities.
March/April
Angel Flight
The mission of Angel Flight is to serve people in need by arranging charitable flights for access to health care and for other humanitarian purposes.
May/June
Northland Animal Welfare Society
NAWS works to create awareness regarding the need to reduce the number of homeless animals and to build a care and adoption campus so that every animal may live in a safe and caring environment.
July/August
Sherwood Center
TheSherwoodCenterexists to empower children and adults with autism and related developmental disabilities to maximize their potential in family and community life.
September/October
Northland Childhood Hunger Fund
NCHF works to combat hunger in Clay andPlattecounties. Northland Childhood Hunger Fund partners with the Harvesters Back Snack program and the Northland Community Foundation to offer weekend meals to area children.
November/December
Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri, Kansas City Region
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
A selection review committee evaluated applications from a variety of local charities before selecting this year’s recipients. Charities were chosen based on community involvement and breadth of reach. Six charities were selected this year and each will receive proceeds from the parking program for the designated two month period.
“Each year, the charities are selected because of individual significance and relevance in our community, and we are proud to be associated with each of them,” said Rosemary Salerno, general manager of Zona Rosa.
Zona Rosa offers on-street parking as well as off-street parking facilities. The on-street parking is managed through a parking meter system, while garage and lot parking is free.
All metered parking at Zona Rosa is located along the interior streets of the development adjacent to the stores and limited to one hour. It is intended for quick shopping trips. Free parking in the surface lots and parking garages is unlimited and encouraged for longer visits.
