AREA McDONALD’S TO HOST STORE’S “RETIREMENT” PARTY, RAISE MONEY FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES OF KANSAS CITY

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Gladstone’s first McDonald’s will close its doors after 41 years in business with a retirement party donating 100 percent of the proceeds to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City. Although the store’s owners are building a new McDonald’s nearby, the longtime restaurant has been a part of the community for decades and served millions of customers.

The “McRetirement Party” is from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, October 18 at the McDonald’s at 7412 North Oak in Gladstone, Mo. The event will feature live music from 6 to 8 p.m., as well as appearances from classic McDonald’s characters.

When it opened in April 1970, the restaurant was operated by Lee and Mary Wagy. Lee and Mary’s son, Jim Wagy has maintained ownership since 1991. Lee Wagy was instrumental in bringing the first Ronald McDonald House to Kansas City in 1981, and Jim Wagy currently serves on the board of directors of the Ronald McDonald House.

The new, updated restaurant will open in early November down the road at 6300 North Oak. The 7412 North Oak location will remain open until the new location opens sometime in early November.

“It has been my pleasure to serve the community during the past 20 years and I look forward to continuing great service at a new location,” said Jim Wagy, McDonald’s owner/operator. “I am very passionate about Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City, and I’m confident that Kansas Citians will want to stop by this location to reminisce and help raise money for this amazing organization.”
